Racehorse doping

Racehorse Doping

What is racehorse doping? Doping racehorses is when an illegal substance is injected into a horse before a race to enhance their performance in the race. Doping is a big problem in the race world. Many horses are dying from the mix of drugs that they are given.

They are over working the horses and masking their pain with drugs. About 24 horses a week die on the racetrack. This kind of cruelty needs to be stopped. The owners of the horses just see them as an object to earn money. These horses are being worked out daily, they have to suffer through the pain. They are being given so many drugs its like a pharmacy. They have put bans and restrictions on doping, but its not enough to many horses are dying and being mistreated and they need help.

obesity causing heart failure

Myocardial tissue phase mapping reveals impaired myocardial tissue velocities in obesity

Even though obesity is linked to heart failure on a population level, not all obesity subjects are develop by cardiac failure. As a result, identifying obesity subjects with changes in myocardial velocities may enable earlier detection of those developing heart failure. As echocardiography is limited in obesity due to a limited window, we used phase contrast magnetic resonance imaging to assess myocardial velocities in obese and normal weight subjects. Normal weight and obesity subjects are without identifiable cardiovascular risk factors underwent MRI to determine left ventricular myocardial velocities using phase contrast tissue and phase mapping. Systolic function was not different between normal and obese subjects. However, obesity was associated with a significantly big peak in radial and longitudinal diastolic myocardial velocity. In addition, peak longitudinal diastolic strain was 20 % lower in obesity and time-to-peak longitudinal rate significantly delayed in obesity.Although peak radial systolic velocity was similar between obesity and normal weight subjects peak longitudinal systolic velocity was 7 % lower in the obese cohort. In obesity without co-morbidities, tissue phase mapping has shown subclinical changes in systolic and diastolic function. Given the link between obesity and heart failure, early detection of changes will become clinically important to prevent disease progression.

Issues in the pediatric nursing field

*You might be expecting and or experiencing some emotional and physical trauma that can occurre while dealing with life or death. It states moral distress often occurs in high-stakes, high-stress health care environments. This means working with children with illnesses such as cancer, obesity, cuts and burns could possibly be very stressful. Research has shown nurses crying in the break room, feeling extremely overwhelmed filled with sadness ,and worrying themselves about feeling if they really did everything  they could possibly do to prevent a death that might occur and contemplating on how she can possibly continue to work in an environment with such tragedy.

Other issues include Psychosocial Issues and Carein Pediatric Oncology

*It states perceptions and awareness of the psychosocial issues experienced by children with cancer and their families and their knowledge of psychosocial interventions. This means children with cancer and their family’s goes through trails of emotional and physical issues. Evidence has shown in long term late effects some people can cope well with minimal intervention, and others may need intensive therapy and or intensive interventions to deal with the emotional pain.

Interpreter services in pediatric nursing talks about English barriers both legal and ethical.

*Issues can arise from caring for non-English-speaking patients. The number of non-English speaking patients looking medical care will continue to flourish as more immigrants are admitted in the United States.

Shock Collars

Shock Collars

Are you thinking about using a shock collar on your dog? Do not! Dog owners should not be using shock collars on their dogs. It is inhumane and recent study has shown that it cause distress in dogs. There is no consistent benefit of using a shock collar to train your dog. In a study conducted with 63 dogs, they split the dogs into three groups. One group used the shock collars while the other two did not. They found that the dogs with the shock collar responded negatively, and the ones that did not have the shock collar responded better to the training.
Reasons shock collar should not be used:

  • Shock collar causes discomfort in the dog
  • Can leave mark on the dog
  • Change a dogs behavior
  • Make a dog lash out
